Eat Me, Baby
October 21-22nd 2023
Log-line: It's 1969, and a pretty girl brings home a catch. She surprises him with two of her friends, and he thinks he's about to have the time of his life. Little does he know that things are about to get messy...
This female revenge story was written by Kyra Richardson and directed by Lucca Viera. This short horror film was incredible to film. The weekend was filled with laughs, penis popsicles, and murder. The cast got this campy scripted and ran with it. The duragtory and out right dirty lines allowed us to play and be free from expectation and judgement. We enjoyed playing the opposite of what was allowed in day to day life. Being an actor is a lot of fun is the major point I can make about this film. I am glad I was on this set and I love the footage. This film just proves how unserious life is. I hope y’all enjoy!
MacBeth
Previews: October 13 &14 2023 - Performances: February 2-4, 2024
As a second year graduate student I am tasked with the exciting task of creating/finding a thesis performance. I have chosen to take on the role of Lady M in MacBeth. The version of MacBeth that has been chosen is an adaptation by Erica Schmidt. In this version it is the story of Macbeth told by an ensemble of 7 women, specifically a Macbeth club at a catholic high school. This adaptation has allowed us to discuss the topics of how violence in schools is so prevalent today, how easily accessible weapons and harmful ideas are to todays youth, and how easy the collective turmoil can turn into a very deadly situation. This has been an intense experience through the rehearsal process of finding out who our High School girls are and how they view the characters of the play. As an ensemble we have created subtext for the subtext of the play, which has been so fun and interesting to create a new story from this very popular story.
Our director is Emma Wilcox. She is also a second year graduate student. This show is not only my thesis but is also the thesis for a fellow cohort member Emily Gates. Emily has taken on the title role of Macbeth himself.
We put previews up in October, as a staged reading. We had blast and through that process we got to discover more about our characters and play deeper into them with out the fear of the ‘final performance’. We will be putting up a final performance for the public sometime in early January! I can not wait to show off this production and all the hard work that has gone into it!
The Tempest
Performances April 21st-23rd Rehearsals March 31st - April 20th
This version of The Tempest by William Shakespeare was devised and cut down in length to an hour. Our fearless Director Francesca Mintowt-Czyz spear headed this project through SCAD Gradlab. This was heavily ensemble driven, many of us played multiple characters or understudied a character. I was very lucky to be a character in the ensemble on April 21st and then I played the role of Miranda for the performances on April 22nd and 23rd. Through this production we played with the physicality of each character and spirit, we performed outside on SCAD beach which added another level to the story along with us as actors working harder to be heard and tell the story bigger physicality. This was my first live performance in over a year and my first live performance in grad school.
Lost Under Hope (Filming)
March 21st - 25th 2023
Imagine you load up 22 people (cast and crew) drive 12 hours from Savannah to Arkansas to film in an old missile silo from the Titan Project that was running during the Cold War. Well That’s exactly what this crew did. It was a lot of fun and very tiring all at the same time. We filmed underground for three days, thankfully we had access to the world above so on breaks we got to see the sunshine and sometimes rain. We filmed with gun and knife fights and I made some pretty great new friends! I don’t want to spoil too much because this project is going to be something so incredible I can not wait for you all to see it! Until then here are some photos from the shoot!
Orange Duel (Filming)
January 27th - 29th 2023 we filmed The Orange Duel written and directed by Sven Klingen. We have filmed in several locations around Savannah, GA. We have filmed in the heat, in the freezing cold, early mornings and so on. It has been so fun living in the fantasy world of Audrey’s imagination and the real world circumstances happening. From sword fights and princess costumes to being messy college students, it has been a blast. I can not wait to see the film all put together and produced. The story is heartbreaking and heart warming at the same time, it is such an important story to tell and Sven has told it in such an artistic and creative way. Again I can not wait to see it all put together and see how all of the hard work from the cast and crew has turned out!
Student Film: Orange Duel (Rehearsals)
I am starting the rehearsal process for another student film, “The Orange Duel” written and directed by Sven/Chloe Klingen. The story is about being forced into coming and the repercussions of that.I get the honor to play Audrey (lead) in this film. She is learning to stand up for herself and those she loves. She wrestles with the chosen family vs biological family. I am excited to get to know her more and dive deeper into her overcoming her worst fear, coming out to her mom. We are. rehearsing our big sword fight and going through some intimacy training. I am very excited about this project and can not wait to share more photos and videos. For now here is a video and pictures from rehearsals on Jan. 13, 2023.
Student Film: The Heir
I was a part of my first student film at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) on October 15, 2022. The film was called ‘The Heir’ , I played the role of Ms.Lee a lawyer. It was very fun to try my hand at acting for film! I worked a long side an excellent crew of actors and technicians, I met some great new people! I am excited to see the footage and work on more films! The project was directed by Menglei Du, she was excellent and had so many great ideas and concepts. I am going to say it again, I am so excited to do more films!
Looking Glass Rock Writers Conference
I spent a week in May on the campus of Brevard College, in Brevard North Carolina. I worked with Looking Glass Rock Writers Conference as an assistant. I helped prepare rooms and goodie bags for participants. I kept social media sites (Twitter and Facebook) updated, drove faculty to and from events, and so many other things. I was able to aid the conference in helping do tasks and errands as needed, keeping the conference running as smoothly and organized as possible. I had the honor of introducing Crystal Wilkinson before a reading. One of my favorite parts was being back up in the mountains of Brevard and seeing the passion and inspiration of all of the participants and faculty. The energy was so high all week it was such a great experience. It definitely encouraged me to pick up writing again.
Graduation
On May 7th, 2022 I graduated from Brevard College (BC) with a BA in Theatre with a focus in performance and a minor in History. I spent all 4 years of undergrad at BC, I worked on many theatre productions as an actor, carpenter, prop supervisor, paint crew, run crew, wigs and makeup, and so many more jobs. I received a well rounded theatre education and feel comfortable working in any area of the theatre. While at BC I was a peer leader for incoming freshman and took on a leadership role on the Cheer and Dance Team. I was a part of the Cheer and Dance Team for all 4 years. BC was a great school to learn about collaboration and what hard work looks like. I made so many great friends and memories here ! I am excited to start my MFA at Savannah College of Art and Design with the background BC gave me.
Props Supervisor
I am currently finishing up being the props supervisor for Brevard College’s show, Next to Normal with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. I have curated the prop list, researched the time period, came up with creative ways to bring the inanimate objects to life, and assist actors being immersed in the world of the play. My favorite prop I have made is the Diana body double, that is undergoing the ECT treatment during Act II. I created this by using a wig head, dress form, bloody prop legs, wig, and fabrics. All of my materials were found in our theatre. I put makeup on the wig head to match that of the actress. I found a wig that also looked like the actress’ s hair. I arranged the objects on the metal gurney and secured it together with gaff tape. The ECT machine was created with suction cups, copper, and silver wires. The ECT was then secured to the wig head. This project took the most time and I am proud of the work I did as a first time props supervisor.
Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) Fine Arts Gala
At Brevard College our biggest annual fundraising event for the fine arts is the Fine Arts Gala. I was asked to step in as the ASM shortly before the program. I led speakers and performers to their spots and cued them when to go on. I helped keep the program on track with the Stage Manager(SM) . I interacted with donors and helped them to their seats. I maintained a calm and organized environment. I helped at check out, assisting donors while completing their donations. It was a great experience to help run an event. I was able to learn how important schedules are and how to best lead my peers.
My Final Performance At Brevard College
I wrapped up my final performance at Brevard College. I was Mille/Pauline in Legacy of Lights by: Karen Zacarias. This play was a great way to finish off my senior year. We were able to to discuss what being a mother really is. We spotlighted three strong women. We also shinned light on a Renaissance Woman Scientist who’s work was never truly published under her name until after her death. This show challenged me in portraying 2 different characters almost back to back. I had multiple quick changes to do, one of the quickest was a 1/2 page of dialogue. I changed into a full renaissance wedding dress from a more modern, early 2000’s, costume. This was a great challenge and team building I was able to create with the quick change team. This show was one of the hardest to close, thankfully I got to finish off with all of my amazing and talented peers.
